Teōtl: Intentional Living

Between ten-step routines, endless product launches, and skincare constantly being shoved in everyone’s face online, Teōtl goes in a different direction. Built on tallow-based products and a minimalist philosophy, the brand leans into the idea that skincare does not always need to be this overly complicated process in order to work.

Teōtl is an all-natural skincare brand with a more stripped-back approach to personal care. Everything is handmade in small batches, with tallow acting as the foundation of the products. The whole point is simplicity, intentionality, and cutting out what feels unnecessary.

But what exactly is tallow? Tallow is rendered animal fat, typically derived from beef, and it has historically been used in soaps, balms, and skincare for centuries. It works as an emollient, helping soften the skin while supporting moisture retention and the skin barrier. Even though tallow has recently become more popular again within “natural” skincare spaces, there is actually nothing new about it. If anything, Teōtl’s approach pulls from older, more traditional methods and reintroduces them through a more modern lens.

The reason Teōtl uses tallow ties directly into the overall mindset behind the brand. Instead of promoting excessive routines, endless ingredients, and products you barely even understand, the focus stays on reduction, simplicity, and being more intentional with what you use. The formulations are minimal, the products are handmade, and there is a strong emphasis on creating something that feels straightforward and accessible rather than overly clinical or engineered.

That being said, skincare is still deeply personal. A minimalist routine may work really well for some people, especially people who prefer simplified skincare or products with fewer ingredients. Other people, particularly those with more targeted skin concerns, may still lean toward more specialized formulations depending on what works best for them. Teōtl is less about claiming to be some universal miracle product and more about offering an alternative approach for people who genuinely connect with that lifestyle and way of thinking.

And honestly, that mindset goes beyond skincare itself. The philosophy behind Teōtl reflects a broader cultural shift toward simplicity and skepticism of over-engineered solutions in general. It is not just about what you put on your skin, but also about being more aware of what you consume overall. There is a strong emphasis on simplifying routines, being intentional, and striving toward a lifestyle that feels cleaner, more grounded, and less overwhelming.

Teōtl was founded by Rodrigo Chacón after dealing with personal health concerns and autoimmune-related symptoms. According to Rodrigo, he still wanted to enjoy things like skincare and fragrance without feeling like he was constantly overloading his system with unnecessary ingredients or spending insane amounts of money on products that felt disconnected from what he actually needed. From there, Teōtl developed into both a skincare brand and a reflection of his personal beliefs surrounding wellness, simplicity, and intentional living.

Since then, the brand has grown heavily through social media and strong visual marketing. A large part of Teōtl’s identity comes from the imagery, lifestyle, and philosophy surrounding it. The branding leans heavily into themes of discipline, self-improvement, nature, simplicity, and self-assurance, with Rodrigo often acting as both the founder and the face of the brand.

Looking ahead, Teōtl appears to be expanding beyond skincare into more of a lifestyle space overall. Future ideas involving apparel and other products tied to the same philosophy suggest that the brand is interested in building a larger identity around intentional living rather than staying strictly within skincare alone.

For the photoshoot itself, we wanted to visually reflect the philosophy behind Teōtl and the idea of striving toward a higher version of yourself. The direction of the shoot focused on simplicity and restraint while still incorporating subtle symbolism throughout the imagery. Certain compositions, like the logo positioned above Rodrigo’s head or him seated beneath the products, were meant to reinforce ideas surrounding aspiration, discipline, confidence, and self-perception. At the same time, the posing and expressions remained direct and self-assured, reflecting the intentionality the brand tries to communicate overall. The goal was to create visuals that felt clean and minimal while still carrying a strong sense of identity and underlying meaning.
