Description
Tugart Brown is an actor based in New York City who brings an incredible level of authenticity to his work. I first discovered him at the Manhattan Monologue Slam hosted by Phillip Galinsky at Baker Falls, where he has now taken first place twice. After seeing him perform, it’s clear why.
Tugart has a rare ability to make a performance feel completely lived in. Nothing about his delivery feels rehearsed or distant. His expressions, voice, and movement work together to create something that feels real and emotionally charged. Watching him, you don’t see a performer acting. You see someone experiencing.
At the most recent slam, he performed as a religious figure trying to convince the audience to turn away from Jesus and follow him instead. It was bold, and he carried it with a kind of quiet command. His tone shifted between confidence, doubt, and conviction, and his body language told its own story. The way he used stillness was just as powerful as his words.
He completely deserved the win. Tugart has a presence that stays with you long after he leaves the stage. I’m looking forward to seeing what he does at the next Manhattan Monologue Slam at Baker Falls. It’s not something you want to miss.
